Drafted from the box, weak pathetic flesh.
Heavy shift, round one, fire. Round two, fire.

A silent echo of cheer spreads through both lands.
Legibility through history taunts pages with ink splattered far.

Shriek across no man's land,
where his mother lay wounded.

Doesn't look so handsome now, does he?
Sharp pains of solitude, how diligent.

Heavy shift, round one, fire. Round two, fire.

Two enemies brought together on one common front.
And so, laid to rest, a basket case.

This poem is supposed to show a story of broken hearts between mother and son and the tragedy of war. I can't quite remember which competition it was that I entered but the theme was 'fighting' and this came second. I'm glad it made you think and especially that you enjoyed it.
