In the early morning hours before pre-dawn, we left the other sisters and journeyed to Crystell's house.

We undressed and lay beside each other in the bed in the darkened bedroom.

I awoke suddenly in the hour before dawn, and felt compelled to go to the bay widows and look out.

The full moon shone in all its luminous splendor, and the stars glowed, filling the still-dark sky with points of red/blue/gold lights.

I felt rather than saw Crystell right behind me.

“It's lovely, isn't it,” she said.

“It's beautiful,” I replied.

“There's no reason why we can't enjoy the best of both worlds,” she said. “Barring accidents and mishaps, and the ones who are determined to destroy us, there's no reason why we cannot exist for a thousand years or more. As I've told you before, we are not immortal, but it is possible that we can exist for thousands of years. I want to spend those years with you.”

“And I you,” I replied.

I leaned my head on her shoulder as we watched the moon and the stars in their eternal dance.
