Thought up through listening to the song dont close your eyes

When we make love darling don’t close your eyes,
See and feel my love, let that feeling with in you arise,
I know you love another, but for once let it be me
That you want to be with, that you want to see

My love is strong but even I can’t do it alone
With my arms around you, yet feeling you’re not home
If he is so good why isn’t he here?
Loving you, kissing you and holding you near.

Each night we go to bed, and I pretend to sleep
Hearing you hurt as you softly weep
I love you so much, I’d let him take you away
Yet again you are crying in my arms like yesterday

Why can’t he feel, Why can’t he see
I would give anything just to let it be me
You cuddle up close, closing your eyes as we kiss
Dreaming it’s him, wanting his caress

We are just friends, it’s casual you say
When we first met you said you wanted it that way
I have tried to tell you, I tried from the start
Don’t close your eyes on me because you have my heart

Still he gives a little tug a call on the phone
I’m forgotten all about, its me left alone
Why did I fall in love with you I softly sigh?
So I’ll just pack up my things and leave a note saying good bye

Then I hear your car in the drive, your running up the stair
Another thirty minutes and I wouldn’t have been there
You run into my arms how much of this can I take
Till you say I’m sorry darling, I made such a mistake

I should have known from the start your love was always there
How you have always held me how you have always cared
When I saw him tonight and I closed my eyes as we kissed
I realised something was so wrong it was you that I missed

So I have come running home to the man that I adore
Begging and hoping I can stop you from walking out the door
Now know that when I close my eyes this feeling is so new
I feel your love about me because darling I love you!

Just an update for this poem it has won me a top 25 entry into poets versus poets competition which out of 30,000 entrants has made me really chuffed wont find out the finishing postion till middle of January but this is the third year in a row ...
