Possible New Chat Room

Ok so Tiger has been busy, he is considering installing an actual chat room here in the Forum......However they do cost money and he wants to be sure that it will be used by Members and a wise investment for our site.

He has given me a link for a chat he is setting up for a different site, but it is the same he would get for us.

Not to be the party pooper but judging by the shoutbox, I can't see there being much activity in the chatroom.

Thats his concern...although it appears you can create other rooms, chat private and such, perhaps folk just dont want to talk the dirty stuff for all to see....hahahahh

There has been a bit more activity in the shout box over the last couple of days, I guess it takes a while to get used to but being totally open probably limits is appeal.

I haven't much used the chatbox because it is open, and because there's a refreshing time limit. I've found that a few mails back and forth with some members has led to a chat on yahoo or MSN, and that works for me. Not saying I wouldn't use a chat room, but I haven't yet found that I'm craving something like that.

I'll try get round to registering for the chat room on the other site...

I find that I use the chatbox every few days or so--not every day. I suspect that most would do the same. A few would probably utilize it every day.

Most times when I've said "hi" or similar there is no response as even when there are people shown as being logged on, most people seem to be busy (reading the posts of course).

The one time there was someone chatting, it worked quite well apart from the annoying delay waiting for it to update (there were 4 people chatting at once!).

It's hard to know if enough people would be there to chat to make a chat room worth while.

There are a few problems with the current chat. First, you have no idea if anyone is there unless you get lucky. The second, related to the first is that if you don't get an immediate response, you just move on. One option might be to have the chat box be a contained in a 'frame' or 'iframe' which the user can decide to keep open or to close/minimize it. Thus the frame could be kept at the bottom or top of the screen and the rest of the site still be open for navigation and the user could then see if any new messages are added. Simple, not very elegant, but does work and is free.

I would enjoy an actual chat room.
Of course I do chat quite a bit in a couple yahoo chat rooms.

It would be nice to chat with others in forum.

I think James3T and lovelqqkn2 make some valid points. mandawg, how in the hell have you found real people to chat on in the yahoo chatrooms? The two times I visited, I was still getting spammed messages weeks after.

Why not just start an IRC Channel? Free and easy!

not sure if this is still up for debate but.. I'm not much for chatrooms because when too many get on, convos get crossed ppl get annoyed and again, it's way open considering the nature of the desired convos on this site..

Having the ability to have private chats would be great, especially if the site was designed to be mobile friendly. I could be sitting in a coffee shop drinking my coffee and having dirty chats at the same time via my phone. It would be great, the biggest problem would be how to hide my erection!
